Into a new Millennium
At SNP, the new millennium heralded in a new corporate enthusiasm, new plans for expansion, but at the same time, a new understanding of the threats posed by a new “threat environment”.
During the Olympics, an estimated 400,000 visitors came into Sydney, creating an enormous security problem. Although this period was stressful and chaotic, there were no security problems, and the operational side of the security function was carried to the highest standards.
Through acquisitions the company had made in the preceding ten years and with the advances in technology, SNP expanded in a short period, far more than it did in the preceding twenty years. Canberra and Melbourne offices were opened, and acquisitions in the NSW north coast gave SNP a strong presence along the east coast of Australia.
In the acquisition of Sussex Security, SNP acquired a guard dog business. Apart from the government agency, SNP Security is today the largest provider of K9 teams in Australia providing explosive detection and drug sniffing services to an expanding market.
SNP Security has a great advantage in responding quickly to legislative changes through their management structure. Unlike foreign owned companies with an off-shore management, decisions within SNP can be made very quickly, allowing the company to both react to such changes and to immediately offer the market a range of security options and responses that fitted a new or potential threat.
Over the last ten years, the SNP Security has grown by twenty percent per year. The Homebush premises were replaced in June 2008 with modern premises in West Ryde, featuring a state-of-the-art Grade A1 Monitoring Centre.
