Caltex Australia Limited
The Kurnell Refinery is deemed as critical infrastructure, and supplies the vast majority of fuel oils to NSW. The site also encompasses an international shipping port and as such, comes under the control of the Australian Customs Service. This is an intrinsically dangerous site, with a high degree of emphasis placed on security and safety.
Under the management of a permanent Site Supervisor, SNP Security Officers deliver comprehensive security services. These services include emergency response, mobile patrols, gatehouse duties, monitoring of first alert systems, and access control. SNP Security Officers also liaise with police, military and customs as required.
SNP Security Officers patrol the site, covering approximately 400 acres (1.6 square kilometers). Four wheel drive vehicles are required to cover all areas of the site given the difficult terrain. SNP Security Officers are involved with the enforcement of site safety and security regulations, and escorts for personnel and equipment. Additional training includes baggage and vehicle search techniques by the APS.
All officers undergo a specialised site induction, including training in the ISPS code, and specialised safety training developed by Chevron Texaco US.
